Artist Highlight: Soulfreq

In our Artist Highlight feature we present artists that are releasing music with Dobar House and Dobar House Gruv - this week: Soulfreq!

Who are you, and what do you do?

My name is Ivan Mladenić, also known as Soulfreq. I am an graduate economist and I currently work in sales. Besides that I am really into music production and djing where I am truly able to express my creative side.

How did your latest release on Dobar House came to be? Tell us about how you started the track, what inspired you etc.

"Disco Ride" is probably one of my favourite productions so far and it seems that it is also the most successful one. Lately, I am really influenced with 90s and early 2000s house/tech house as you can hear in my latest productions, so I can say my sound definitelly evolved from prevoius minimal house tracks. This one came out of the oven really fast and I really had fun making it. I started with the drum groove and after that I found some nice synth/vocal hits from 90s sample cd which really made the track. Added some classic M1 organ,  some naughty 303, glitchy percs and there you have it 😀

Where was your favourite gig so far and why was it special for you?

Dobar House gigs are probably my top 3 gigs so far, but I have to say that Dobra House Vibra Weekender at Ridimutak Beach was one that really stands out. Open air party, island vibe, hedonism and house music. Can't get any better than that if you ask me.

If you had to choose: DJ-ing or producing?

It all started with djing and I definitelly love it. It's hard to beat that feeling when you play the right track at the right time. On the other hand, music production is where I am truly able to express myself and get into that state where you lose the track of time and just have fun. So in conclusion, it doesn't go one without another.

What's next for you in the coming months?

I am super excited for my gig at Sea Star festival. It's my first big festival gig ever so I can't wait for it. Besides that I am planning to make a lot of new music and have fun while at it.

Why is Dobar House the best label on the planet earth?

Dobar House will always have a special place in my heart because I've experienced some lifetime memorable achievements with them such as first release ever, playing with PIV guys, meeting amazing people and partying on the island. Tom and Elena are super nice and I really enjoy working with them. Hope to continue doing so in the future! 😀
