One of the hottest on-the-rise DJs and producers from The Netherlands is coming to Dobar House in Zagreb
We talked with one of the main protagonists of PIV Records, M-High who is coming to our party alongside PIV founder Prunk.
We are throwing our biggest event yet this Saturday, 2nd of April in Aquarius Club on the Jarun lake, and we can't wait for the festivities to begin. It looks like we're gonna have a full house. Other than our main guests from PIV Records, Dobar House staples Elena Mikac, Soulfreq, and Tom Bug & Grooveline are added to the lineup.
M-High is a quality producer, and PIV's A&R, so we asked him a bunch of things regarding his production, his A&R work, his DJ career that's on the rise, and much more, so be sure to check it out below!
DH: Hi Marjin, thanks for chatting with us! We are looking forward to your set at Dobar House, how do you like to start your sets?
M-HIGH: Hey man! Thanks! 😊 Looking forward to playing next week.
I never start my sets in one way, I always watch the crowd when the DJ before me plays so I know what they are into since every crowd is different. I'm always thinking about what my first record will be when I'm about to play. But I guess every DJ does this.
DH: If you could choose only one, would you rather present yourself through DJ-ing or production and, of course, why?
M-HIGH: Honestly, I can't answer this. I love music so much that I never would be able to stop making music, but the same for playing it. I love standing in front of a crowd and transferring my energy into the crowd. I would have to flip a coin for this, as I really can't pick, I love both things 100%.
DH: When did you start working as PIV Records A&R, and how do you like your job? Do you ever get tired of listening to the music you get?
M-HIGH: I've taken over the A&R and Label Management job about one year ago. I love it! Although it's a job that goes on 24/7, I never get tired of it. Sometimes I take a break from checking demos for a few days to freshen up my ears. But I love to find gems from underrated artists!
DH: What's your ideal everyday soundtrack?
M-HIGH: I listen to so many different pieces of music daily! What a hard question! 😉 I love to pick a random vinyl from my collection and put it on in my living room. So a different one every day!
DH: Although it's still has been a short year, what are its highlights for you so far, professionally and personally?
M-HIGH: Definitely signing a lot of music (that I can't tell about yet), knowing that it will be out in the future gives me a wonderful feeling. Also, just the rise that I've seen in my career lately makes me happy every day.
DH: US or UK house?
M-HIGH: Old US!!
DH: Tell us a fun story you experienced while traveling to gigs.
M-HIGH: When I was in Croatia with Prunk, his brother, and our PIV events guys 'HJ', we had all the time in the world to get to our plane. But we decided to go out for dinner and almost missed our flight. The woman behind the desk wouldn't let us on, but Prunk is known for his good talks and got us on the plane anyway. Legend!
DH: For me personally, one of the best EPs released on PIV is your 'By My Side' EP. Can you tell us a bit more about how you made it?
M-HIGH: I've had these tracks laying around for a while, and I was looking for tracks for my EP. These were some personal favorites that already got some heavy support in the past 2 years. I usually start with a breakbeat sample, and as you can hear, I left that one in the track and it works really well For TIAD, I started with some chords and used some cool theory tricks to make them stand out more. Jovonn was a perfect add-on to the EP with a more club-oriented deep remix.
DH: Speaking of favorites, what's your favorite artist or release on PIV?
M-HIGH: Whoooof, what a question. I can't think of one, but my favs are:
Aron Volta Hot Night
Chris Stussy Speak
Brawther Re funk on Okain PIVLIM
DJ Steaw His EP
M-High – Je Suis & Harmony in the distance
Waves Toman
Stay Together Kylin Tyce
Hyperreality Demarzo
But, the forthcoming stuff on PIV is so so sooo good! Man, this year will be epic release-wise. We've got the coolest artists coming up with the most amazing pieces of music.
DH: We always ask this question, so we will make no exception here. What does Dobar House (good house music) mean to you?
M-HIGH: To mean it means music that will turn a room full of individuals into a room full of a group of friends.
DH: A word for your future fans in Zagreb?
M-HIGH: I've prepared the coolest tracks! Bring it on! 😊
